Directions

When visitors reach the top of Highland Lighthouse this year they will be welcomed by a bright, new light: a state-of-the-art LED beacon.  The new beacon will create a 5 second white flash of light from the tower’s Lantern Room, replacing the familiar rotating motion of the previous beacon.  Installation of the new beacon ensures that Cape Cod’s oldest lighthouse remains a vibrant icon of Cape Cod National Seashore.

Highland Lighthouse is located on Highland Light Road in North Truro, MA. Take Route 6 to Highland Road, and follow signs to Highland Lighthouse. For GPS users, the address for Highland Lighthouse is 27 Highland Light Road, North Truro, MA, 02682. Our phone number is 508-487-1121.

Parking

Ample parking for visitors is located on Highland Light Road, next to the Highland House Museum. The lighthouse is a short walk up the driveway from the lot.

  • All climbers must be at least 48” tall.

  • There is a fee of $4 for all climbers.

  • Access to Museum and Keepers Shop is free and handicap accessible.

Due to space limitations in the Lantern Room, climbing groups are not to exceed 12 people.

The climb to the top is strenuous. It may be hot, humid, noisy and dim inside the lighthouse. Climbing the 69 stairs to the Lantern Room is roughly equal to climbing a 5-story building. The circular metal stairs are narrow and steep. There are two ladders near the top of the climb to access the Lantern Room. Groups going up may share the stairs with groups returning to the bottom.

The bus will park in the parking lot near the Highland House Museum where the bathrooms are located. It is approximately 2/10 of a mile walk to the Lighthouse and another 2/10 of a mile walk to the Observation Platform.

The lighthouse may close at any time if weather conditions (i.e. lightening) are determined to be unsafe.
